Ibrido Mora Lampone – Tayberry

This plant you can find at PRANDINI’S GARDEN NURSERY CENTRE. It is a hybrid obtained by crossing the raspberry and the blackberry, first obtained in Scotland. The shoots are not very thorny the plant is very productive, but it needs a cold climate to start its production.

TERRAIN

The Tayberry prefers a soft, semi acid soil which is rich in organic substances; they love the sun even if it would be better for the low parts of the plant to avoid direct contact with the sun

FLORA AND FRUITS

The fruit is of modest size (circa 3 – 4 cm in length) with an elongated shape. They are a variable red according to their grade of maturity, are very sweet they contain nutritional and beneficial properties derived from the Raspberry and the Blackberry.

USE AND HEALTH GIVING PROPERTIES

As with many other summer fruit, The Tayberry has a low calorie content and is rich in fibre, plus, recently researchers have demonstrated that it contains antioxidant properties.
The fruit can be eaten fresh or used to make juice, jam or gelatin.

POTTING PRUNING AND CULTIVATION

The plant fruits on the short lateral branches which are produced from the branches of the previous year (not fruit bearing) which should be left, whilst the branches which have fruited should be completely removed. So every branch fruits the second year and for this reason the plant begins fruiting the second year
